When Seriousness of condition demands significant results
Dosages : 50 – 200 gms (250 – 1000 ml) I.V. over a period of 24 hours. Adjusted to maintain a urine output of 30 to 50 ml per hour.
Logical Combination : Combines rapid action of Mannitol with reduction of rebound oedema with glycerol. Glytol thus ensures diffusion of water from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) back into plasma due to increase in osmolality of the plasma. Mannitol’s action though fast may be followed by rebound oedema negating the early beneficial effects. Glycerol in Glytol ensures freedom from rebound oedema as well as an additive action in reducing cerebral oedema.
Cerebral Oedema of Varied Etiology :
- Cerebral Infarction
- Head Injury
- Meningitis
- Intracranial Tumour
- Brain Abscess
- Encephalitis
