- Provides greater calories (370) as compared to dextrose 10% (340).
- Lower incidence of thrombophlebitis.
- Fructose is metabolised in absence of insulin & utilised more rapidly than dextrose especially in diabetic patients.

In general, Carbohydrates in Sodium Chloride Solutions are indicated when calories are needed & the chloride loss has been greater than, or equal to, the sodium loss. For example they are useful in losses due to sweating, vomiting or gastric suction. They are of value when alkalosis exists in the presence of fluid-loss.
- Optimal fluid replacement with High caloric supplimentation.
- Ideal for treating Alcoholism, Neonatal Hypoglycemia & for sparing concurrently administered Amino Acids.
Indications:
- When calories are needed & chloride loss has been greater or more than sodium loss.
- Losses due to excessive sweating, vomiting or gastric suction.
- When alkalosis exists in presence of fluid-loss.Â
Dose: Per day dose for Adults: 1000 to 3000 ml. Infants: 100 to 1000 ml. Children: 200 to 2000 ml.
